Q: How do I sign up for a project?
A: You can sign up for projects by filling out the project sign-up form on the website here, or by contacting us directly. If there is space available for the project, we will sign you up. Please note that you are not to attend the project for which you have signed up until you receive confirmation from the team leaders. For weekend projects, you will receive a reminder email the week before the project is scheduled, in addition to an email reminder a day or two before the event.
Q: Does it cost money?
A: No and Yes. Our school year program offers noncommittal volunteer events sporadically throughout each month, these events have no cost associated with them. Our summer camp program offers a week long, M-F 9:30am-3:30pm experience that has a cost of $60 ($75 outside of city). This program offers two volunteer events per day with a lunch break in between and a fun-day Friday in which we travel outside of Corvallis for a day-long project.
Q: Is there a minimum or maximum number of projects I can volunteer for?
A: Nope! Volunteer as much as you want! Many of our youth need a specific amount of volunteer hours for school or other organizations but many enjoy working with us so much that they volunteer hundreds of hours of their time. Most of our projects are two hours long, but we do have some longer opportunities available!
Q: What do I need to bring with me to the project?
A: If this is your first time volunteering with YVC during the school year, you need to download and complete the YVC Waiver and have a parent/guardian sign where indicated if you are under age 18. Bring this form with you to your first project. For our summer projects, you will need to register in-person at the office or online through Activenet. Some projects will require you to bring additional items such as a sack lunch, an agency waiver or special clothing (e.g., closed-toe shoes for a construction project). Check out the project descriptions on the Volunteer page to see if your project has any additional requirements.
